Also time to put in the garden! (Muddy yet again)

Life is still busy!  Keeping up with short story writing, sending out queries, and housework/remodeling seems like a full-time job–and then there is my actual job.  As you can see from the above count, Three Rivers Deep is almost up to 11k followers on Pinterest. Woot!  As far as contacting literary agents is concerned, I’m waiting to hear back from a few manuscript requests (fingers crossed!). While this is exciting, of course, I’m still sending queries out until I connect with the right person. I suspect that I’ll recognize her/him by the halo encircling their head, kittens perched on their shoulders, and sunshine and rainbows prancing about their feet.

If only the signs were that clear!

My life has been busy!  Keeping up with edits, sending out queries, running my poor kitty Jeriah to the vet (he was recently diagnosed with cancer).  He’s not eating well on his own, so i’ve been giving him food and water by hand, along with his prescribed dose of prednisone (steroid pill).

(My orange kitty, Jeriah)

I’ve been very sad over his illness, and there is nothing that can be done other than to keep him fed and keep him comfortable.

So this has been my life for the last 6+ weeks:  Caring for my kitty, editing Three Rivers Deep, going to working (it’s christmas ornament season, and the orders are rolling in!), feeding my husband, working on remodeling projects, and keeping the house in a semi-clean state.

Due to the busy holiday weekend, last week I threw up one of my poems in the place of my weekly author’s update.  If you like three legged, two tailed turtles, you might want to give Merve (the turtle) a read through.

Did anyone else watch the History Channel’s “Houdini” on Labor Day and find themselves completely enamored?  Holy smokes,  Adrien Brody is a beautiful man!  I never thought I’d find myself ogling a guy wearing 1920s mens swimwear.  My new-found crush on Brody aside, I got a lot done over the extended weekend (demoing the studio room, cutting brush, polishing a good chunk of Three Rivers Deep/book 2).  I almost feel like I need a day off from my days off!

Merve (the turtle)

three-rivers-deep_merve-turtle

Splish, splash, I was taking a shower
When the traffic light turned green
And I was sucked down the drain.
But I didn’t much care
It was Adventure Time
And I wanted to visit my good friend Merve—
I never believed when the tabloids said he died.

Merve the Turtle
He ain’t no stock broker
He don’t keep tabs on the Dow Jones
He don’t know your self worth
And he certainly won’t pay your tab—
He’ll never play your rumor game.

He be belly up
Sipping from his sippy cup
Sitting on the couch
And watching a Jeopardy repeat
Because he travels to an offbeat
He’s got three feet,
Three legs and two tails—Yes sir.

He survived Chernobyl
Because Merve the Turtle
Never Dies—
He’s impervious to your death-by-tainted-lettuce Lies

This week’s Serene Haiku theme could either be “Mortality” or “The Human Condition.”  We haven’t exactly pinned it down for certain, lol.  And as far as blog posts go, I’ve started doing a (Lovely) Word of the Day  .  Just something simple, beautiful, and (dare i suggest it) informative to put up on the days I’m not doing a Serene Haiku or an Author Update.  So please, do enjoy these!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!  My part of the U.S. is finally seeing a stretch of warm, summer days.  I fully intend to go out and smile up at the sky—before i go back in to vacuum the house, lol.

If you haven’t already noticed, this week’s Serene Haiku theme is “Blood.”  I think it was pretty easy to figure out, lol.  And just to give a shout out for Dawn (our haiku supplier) I’ve been helping her set up a wordpress blog of her own.  You can visit and read the poetry that she’ll be posting (possibly on a daily basis, as she is super excited about her blog) at:  www.dawnserene.wordpress.com

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend (that doesn’t involve blood, UNLESS you’re donating)!  I unfortunately cannot donate, as my body doesn’t like needles.  And it’s not that i’m afraid—I don’t scream and run away in terror at the sight of sharp objects.  However, the one time that i tried to donate, they pricked my finger for the initial “quality test” and i didn’t do so well.  Thirty seconds later, I blacked out during their questionnaire.

If you have been keeping up with the “Serene Haiku” posts this week, you may have noticed that they have a theme:  “Yellow.”  Dawn and I have decided that having a theme of week would be an additional fun factor.  Next week, see if you can guess the new theme.  I’ll post Monday and Wednesday’s haikus, and then reveal the theme on Thursday.

One Pinterest update—there are two new boards:   Elemental | Air & Fog  and  Elemental | Field & Flower (click to visit)

As you can see, Three Rivers Deep’s pinterest page bypassed TWO THOUSAND followers over the weekend!  Happy dance!  Woot!  Other than that, there isn’t a lot to update.  I’m still reaching out to agents with my project.  This whole “finding an agent to represent one’s work/writing career” really has a ” glacier shifting forward, slowly but surely” feeling about it.

During this time spent in “The Glacier Zone,” my excess, fidgety energy is being focused in various, purposeful directions (lest i go insane): researching and building my agents-to-contact list, polishing Three Rivers Deep: book TWO, tearing down and manhandling the 60s wooden paneling in the bedroom that is to become my studio. ——– And as I begin to see responses to “queries sent” trickle back in, it’s actually been therapeutic to reply to all of them.  Even the positively toned “thank for sharing/sounds like a wonderful piece/regretfully not a good fit for us.”  Replying back to say thank you to this very busy person for their time, thank them for writing back (because some agents you won’t ever hear from, even if they have read your query), and finally, wishing that agent the best in finding projects that they can be passionate about—THIS helps keep your attitude positive and heart happy.  You’ve come full circle with this particular person (who you’ve spent precious time researching and have come to like “the idea of them”).  Because I get excited when I find an agent that I’d love to work with!!!  So whenever I get to say “thank you” to them, even if our correspondence goes no further, this gives me, dare I say, a sense of closure.

“Thank you for the prompt response to my query.  It’s unfortunate that my search for “the perfect home” for my work doesn’t stop here, but c’est la vie.  My querying quest goes on!”

Blog updates:  In a continuing effort to post something beautiful/simple throughout the week, my good friend/first reader/haiku queen Dawn Serene has agreed to give me permission to feature some of her work.  So we can look forward to a “Serene Haiku” every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  As a disclosure, I would like to state that these are her original pieces.  If for some reason you are interested in a particular haiku, leave me a comment, and i will gladly hook you up with Dawn directly.  So you two crazy kids can work out whatever need be.

Cat tree update:  I have the Bonsai Cat Tree Gallery up and running on the blog!  Now, you can view every tree, with the option of clicking on to enlarge.  So you will be able to see all those crazy-fantastic details!  When you go to the gallery, you will be greeted by the following tree:

I’ve been exploring what all this WordPress blog can do.  Which has led me to build an additional page:  Three Rivers Deep: On Pinterest .  Now people coming in from Pinterest will have this as a more relevant landing page, Woot!

For my next trick, i will learn how to use the WordPress gallery feature.  This i anticipate will give me the additional super power of “photo pied piper.”  Henceforth, hundreds of photographs will line up in neat order when i whistle and deem it so.  I might even be able to build a Cat Tree photo gallery page!!!
Awe!  The possibilities!
